The Reds boss explained the reason for his side’s poor start against Fulham after dropping valuable points in the Premier League.

Jurgen Klopp revealed Liverpool’s slow start in Sunday’s 1-1 draw at Fulham was because of their involvement in the midweek Champions League games.

Bobby Reid handed Fulham a surprise lead before the half-hour mark at Craven Cottage. The hosts tested Reds keeper Alisson Becker frequently, but couldn’t double their advantage during the match.

That inability to do so opened the door for Mohamed Salah to fire a penalty past Alphonse Areola to salvage a point for Liverpool.

Their draw, however, meant all four English clubs (Liverpool, Chelsea, City, & United) competing in the Champions League failed to win over the weekend.

Only Leicester City, meanwhile, won their domestic fixture out of the teams that competed in the midweek Europa League fixtures.

“In the first 30 minutes we were just not good,” Klopp told Sky Sports.

“We could have lost the game in that period. After half an hour it was already better. The second half was good. We could have had more [goals].

“We are dealing with human beings and things like this happen.

“Yesterday all the teams that played in the Champions League had a tough one. It’s crazy. Maybe this was the weekend we felt it a little bit.

Liverpool will next face Tottenham at Anfield on Wednesday night for a top-of-the-table clash in the Premier League.
