Chelsea were willing to keep Willian at the Stamford Bridge but the Brazilian walked away as a free agent.

Mikel Arteta continues to improve the Gunners. Arsenal did not live up to expectations in the Premier League but managed to win the FA Cup. The have followed it up with the Community Shield.

The Emirates will be a difficult place to visit with the reinforcements made to the Arsenal squad. William Saliba has belatedly joined. Gabriel Magalhaes will also strengthen the dressing room. Meanwhile, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will have William to keep him company in attack.

It is Willian’s addition that has raised a lot of expectations at the club. The wide-man adds experience and threat from the flanks.

Willian’s agent, Kia Joorabchian, shared details on how the detail came into fruition. David Luiz cajoled him into leaving Stamford Bridge but it was Mikel Arteta’s plans that convinced him to sign a three-year contract.

“With Willian, there’s no secret he wanted a three-year contract, but the Mikel Arteta project was just incredible,” the agent told talkSPORT.

“He was very much wooed by Mikel and [technical director] Edu, and what Mikel presented to him and the way he wants to play football, the way he wants to continue and the success he wants to bring to Arsenal, made the difference.

“That’s what he said and that’s exactly what it was.”

Arsenal start their 2020/21 Premier League campaign with a London derby. The Gunners are on the road against newly-promoted Fulham.
