Bruno Fernandes denies having a secret formula for his penalty kicks suggesting that it is a result of his adaptability and decisiveness.

Bruno Fernandes scored his 12th goal in Manchester United colors when he converted the spot-kick with his trademark hop in the 2-1 Europa League semi-final loss to Sevilla.

Fernandes has so far found the back of the net each time he has stepped up to the 12-yard marker.

Out of the 25 goals he scored last season for Man United and former club Sporting Lisbon, 14 have been penalties.

His efficiency from the spot has brought him comparisons to United’s most competent penalty takers from the past, including Eric Cantona.

The Portuguese midfielder, however, insists he does not have a special method for his penalties. Instead, he reads the goalkeeper in front of him and takes decisions accordingly.

“I always pay attention to what the goalkeepers are doing – how they position themselves, how they best prevent shots on goal,” Fernandes said, as per the official club website.

“I don’t have a specific technique in taking penalties. There’s no certain run-up I take, I just stick to what I feel is most comfortable. If I change it every so often, it might make the goalkeeper uncertain.

“It’s not a matter of fear or mistrust, it’s more about trying to change the game a bit, or even trying to trick the goalkeeper.”
