Steven Zhang feels Inter Milan showed great fighting spirit this season and is confident that they can come stronger in the next one.

Inter Milan found themselves at the wrong end of the 3-2 scoreline following the full-time whistle at RheinEnergieSTADION on Friday.

It was a dismal night for Inter as the loss to Sevilla in the Europa League final meant that they missed a great chance to end their nine-year trophy drought.

The Italian side endured a disappointing season domestically as well. They crashed out of Coppa Italia after a semi-finals defeat to Napoli while marginally lost the Serie A title to Juventus.

Another trophyless season has cast doubts on the future of manager Antonio Conte. Conte himself admitted that he was unsure of his future at the club after last night’s loss.

However, president Steven Zhang insists that he is satisfied with overall balance of Inter’s past season.

“If you look back over the whole season, I think it has been quite positive. We reached the Final and came close to winning it. A couple of years ago, we could not have imagined that,” the youngest president in Inter’s history told Sky Sports.

“Winning or losing is part of football, but reaching the final makes us optimistic. We will try again next year. This is the beauty of competition: trying to give your best and improve, hoping for a better future.”

“The coach, staff, and players are all doing a great job. We’ll plan for the future soon.”
