Angel Di Maria has expressed his discontentment at not being called up for the Argentina national team despite being in good form.

Argentina head coach Lionel Scaloni earlier this week announced his 30-man squad for next month’s CONMEBOL World Cup qualifiers.

La Albiceleste are set to host Ecuador at La Bombonera, Buenos Aires on October 8 before going up against Bolivia on October 13 in La Paz.

A major taking point of Scaloni’s decision was the absence of Paris Saint-Germain star Angel Di Maria from his squad list.

Di Maria was one of the key instigators for PSG’s quadruple domestic trophy success last season, putting up an impressive statistic of 12 goals and 23 assists across all competitions.

The 32-year winger also led his side to the finals of the Champions League in 2019/20 and only narrowly lost out to Bayern Munich.

“I can’t find an explanation, I have no words. Argentina’s national team is the most important for me,” Di Maria told radio show Closs Continental in response to not getting a place in his national team.

“If I work my ass off at PSG it is to have a chance in the national team and be able to compete. It’s difficult to understand that being in a good moment I am not called.

“If I’m not called it’s because they don’t want to call me. I’ll keep fighting to be in Argentina’s national team.”
