Manuel Neuer insists Barcelona were bound to concede against Bayern Munich given his side’s attacking prowess.

Bayern Munich booked their place in the Champions League semi-finals at the expense of a quite debilitated FC Barcelona.

It was a goal galore as Bayern put eight past Barcelona. Thomas Muller, Ivan Perisic, Serge Gnabry, Joshua Kimmich, Philippe Coutinho, and Robert Lewandowski all contributed to the dismantling, as Marc-Andre ter Stegen could feel nothing but helpless.

There have been debates as to who among Manuel Neuer and Ter Stegen should be No.1 for the German national team, but that debate now seems to be settled.

Neuer understands that the result sends a statement in favor of his side but cannot help but feel sad for his compatriot as he expresses sympathy towards him post-match.

“I’m a little sorry for Marc-Andre Ter Stegen that he conceded so many goals,” he said, via Goal.

“It’s good for us, of course, but you wouldn’t wish that to any team-mate from the national team.

“You could see that we didn’t let up [for even] a minute and that we always wanted to keep playing forward. Of course, Barca are also strong offensively. We know that goals can come. We tried to play [towards] Barca’s goal until the very end. Accordingly, we were successful.”
