Bayern Munich play their third game in nine days for Sunday afternoon’s visit to Hoffenheim in the Bundesliga.

The reigning champions got off to the perfect start by smashing eight unanswered goals past Schalke for their opening game and hope for more of the same against Hoffenheim, who defeated FC Cologne 3-2 in their respective opener.

Considering the last meeting at the PreZero Arena ended in a 6-0 win for Bayern on February 2020, the hosts will have their work cut on this one.

Hoffenheim Form & Stats

Sebastian Hoeness has enjoyed a positive start to life as Hoffenheim coach by winning his first two games against Chemnitzer FC on penalties in the DFB-Pokal and Cologne during last weekend’s Bundesliga opener.

Hoeness, who is the nephew of former Bayern president Uli and club legend Dieter, has promised an exciting brand of attacking football. So far, it’s worked out with high-scoring affairs for his first games. But the real challenge starts now in the shape of Bayern, whose reserve team he coached last term.

The 38-year-old is determined to pull one over his old employers and prove his worth for Die Kraichgauer. And considering the Bavarians’ congested schedule, there just be an opportunity in there for him.

Key Team Stats
  • Won last four league games.
  • Over 2.5 goals scored in nine of last 10 home league games.
  • Over 2.5 goals in last six games against Bayern in all competitions.
  • Have won three league games against Bayern since 2017.
  • Have won their first home match of a new season in the last three campaigns.
  • Have scored three or more goals in last four league games.

Bayern Munich Form & Stats

A Serge Gnabry hat-trick set the tone as Bayern began their pursuit of a ninth successive Bundesliga title in style by thrashing Schalke 8-0 at the Allianz Arena last weekend.

Hansi Flick’s side followed it up by beating Sevilla 2-1 on Thursday’s UEFA Super Cup final. Leon Goretzka and Javi Martinez were on target to complete a comeback victory, and secured the European champions a fourth major title in 2020.

Fatigue, though, may already be a factor for Bayern due to the quick turnaround from last season. There’s also the fact the Bavarians will play their third match in the space of nine days on Sunday. Even Robert Lewandowski confessed the effects of the congested schedule left them too exhausted to celebrate their latest accolade.

Although Flick pointed out on Saturday’s pre-match press conference that the five-substitution rule should help Bayern overcome this problem. He’s also confident his players will be able to perform at their best, even if it’s just for an hour.

The Bavarians boss, though, may still make changes to his line-up to freshen it up for Hoffenheim.

Key Team Stats
  • On a record-equaling run of 10 away league wins in a row.
  • Have won last 14 league games.
  • Been ahead at half-time and full-time in last eight away league games.
  • Scored three or more goals and won five of their last six games against Hoffenheim in all competitions.
  • Have kept five clean sheets in last six away league games.
