The Nigerian striker’s scintillating form for Napoli has drawn comparisons to former Serie A star Romelu Lukaku.

Paolo Di Canio has praised Victor Osimhen and marked out the key difference between the Napoli man and Chelsea star Romelu Lukaku.

Fresh from winning Serie A Player of the Month for September, Osimhen continued his remarkable form on Sunday by scoring the winning goal to steer Napoli to a 1-0 victory over Torino.

It was the Nigeria international’s fifth Serie A goal in only seven games and it preserved Napoli’s 100% winning start to the season.

Speaking on the Sky Calcio Club show, Di Canio made an eye-catching remark on comparisons between Osimhen and Lukaku.

“I heard [Giuseppe] Bergomi comparing Osimhen and Lukaku. But Osimhen has a different spirit, he’s not dull like him,” said the former Napoli and West Ham striker.

After a bright start on his return to Chelsea, Lukaku has failed to score in his last five games for the Blues.

“When the difficulty increased, he scored no goals in five games with Chelsea. And it’s not Chelsea’s fault,” continued Di Canio. “They are first [in the table] even without his goals.”

He added: “Lukaku does not score. Lukaku is a functional player, as [Fernando] Llorente was in [Antonio] Conte’s Juve. Even if Lukaku is stronger than Llorente. Lukaku is functional to a certain type of game.”
