Recurring injuries have prevented the Belgian to take flight in the Spanish capital, but his national team coach points to an even bigger issue.

No Chelsea fan will remember Eden Hazard as an ‘injury-prone’ player, but that word sums up his reputation among the Real Madrid supporters.

The talented forward has had little time to showcase his expertise at Santiago Bernabeu, with his inability to stay fit being a huge deterrent in his integration into the Los Blancos line-ups.

Yet another fitness issue picked up in the La Liga clash against Alaves forced him to miss the Champions League trip to Shakhtar Donetsk and he is also expected to play no part against Sevilla on Saturday.

Only three appearances so far this term has been made by the €100 million man who also could only muster just over 1000 minutes of action in La Liga in 2019/20.

“[Hazard’s latest injury] doesn’t worry me in the long run. I’m concerned about the lack of happiness that he cannot have at the moment,” said Roberto Martinez, the Belgium head coach, via Marca.

“Eden should be on the pitch and able to enjoy his football. Unfortunately, now we have to wait a little longer, but we have no long-term concerns.

“We would be concerned if we didn’t know Hazard and if he wasn’t reacting to the treatment.”
