Despite scoring the match-winner in the derby victory over West Ham, Hargreaves feels Werner still has a lot to prove to Chelsea.

Chelsea’s last five games of the Premier League season are ‘really important’ for Timo Werner, says Owen Hargreaves.

The former Manchester United midfielder believes Werner must stop missing chances now, or else risk Chelsea signing a ‘big hitter’ in the upcoming summer transfer window.

Werner scored his sixth Premier League goal of the season, and his second in 23 outings, during Saturday’s 1-0 win over top-four rivals West Ham in London.

But while the German repaid Thomas Tuchel’s faith for starting him as a center-forward, he missed two chances early in the match and a superb opportunity from around six yards out in the second half.

Now amid rumors linking Erling Haaland, Romelu Lukaku, and Sergio Aguero to Stamford Bridge, Hargreaves believes Werner is in a vital stage of his Blues career.

“He looks like he is short of confidence – 31 appearances only six goals. In Germany it was one a game at least … he is making decisions you wouldn’t normally see (from him),” said Hargreaves as per Optus Sport.

“It is a really important five or six games because if he keeps missing some of these chances, Chelsea are going to go buy a big hitter.

“Tammy Abraham is their top scorer in all competitions and … he barely plays right now.

“If Chelsea want to go to the next level, they need someone with big numbers.”
