Today we celebrate the 24th birthday of Leicester City star James Maddison by taking a brief look back on his career story.
James Daniel Maddison is one of English football’s most exciting young attacking midfielders and has been subject to interest from the likes of Manchester United over the past year.
The 24-year-old began his career at Coventry City before signing up for Norwich City in 2016. Although he had to wait until April 2017 to make his Canaries debut after loan spells at former club Coventry and Scottish side Aberdeen.
But the wait was worth it, as Maddison made an instant impression at Carrow Road to be selected for the PFA Team of the Year and EFL Team of the Season in 2017/18.
His performances in the Championship led to a €25m transfer to Leicester in 2018 and a debut for the England Under-21 team. A first call-up to the senior team also came that year. However, he didn’t win his first and only cap so far until October 2019 in a 7-0 win over Montenegro.
But while things haven’t really taken off on the international stage yet, Maddison’s performances for Leicester remain as impressive as ever.
The Foxes awarded him a new long-term contract in August and he hopes to repay their faith by helping steer them to a top-four Premier League finish this season.
