After his brace on Tuesday, the Atletico man is now just 10 goals shy of becoming his country’s all-time top scorer.

Antoine Griezmann feels “a great source of pride” after equalling Michel Platini’s goalscoring record for France and becoming the nation’s joint-third top scorer of all time.

Griezmann scored both goals in France’s 2-0 victory over Finland in their World Cup qualifying match on Tuesday.

The 30-year-old forward’s double saw him take his tally for the national team to 41 goals, leveling legend Platini.

He will now be aiming to match the goal tally of Olivier Giroud, who has 46 goals to his name so far, and eventually Thierry Henry, who is the leading goalscorer for France with 51 goals.

“It’s a great source of pride,” Griezmann told TF1.

“Since I’ve been here, since 2014, I always try to bring the best, whether it’s goals, with my defensive or offensive work.”

Griezmann added on the result: “We wanted this victory, to show that we were solid and that we didn’t lose everything.

“There was a good state of mind. We gave everything we had on the field and we tried to hurt them up front.

“What changed? Maybe we found a system that suits us better. We’ll see, the coach will decide. But this time we were strong. We had drawn five times, and it was starting to take a long time. Here, we won in style.”
