The Blancos reclaimed their top spot in La Liga with a hard-fought win over Getafe.

Real Madrid defeated Getafe 1-0 in their La Liga game on Saturday. The Blancos returned to winning ways after last week’s draw against Osasuna.

Real Madrid started the game with a great pace, scoring the winner only three minutes in.

Following a precise corner from Luka Modric, the centre-back powered the ball home from close range to make it 1-0.

Carlo Ancelotti’s side came close to doubling their lead several times before halftime. However, their unsuccessful attacks resulted in Getafe’s improved morale at the beginning of the second period.

The hosts made a few attempts to come back into the game but couldn’t fight their opponents’ domination over possession.

Real Madrid remained in charge of the game until the end but had found few opportunities to increase their lead.

The narrow win, however, is enough for Ancelotti’s men to leapfrog Barcelona from La Liga’s top spot.

The Blancos will prepare to meet Shakhtar Donetsk in their next Champions League game on Tuesday.
