Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford have not made the England boss’ newest call-up.

England are preparing to face Switzerland in a friendly game on March 26, with Gareth Southgate publishing his newest Three Lions squad. The England manager has omitted Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford from his side, a clear warning ahead of the upcoming FIFA World Cup.

Rashford has lost his starting place at Manchester United recently, with youngster Anthony Elanga replacing him in the lineup.

On the other hand, Jadon Sancho has somewhat recovered from his slow start at United in recent weeks. However, his performances have not persuaded Southgate to call him up for the upcoming games.

“The other attacking players in the squad are slightly ahead of him at the moment in our feeling,” Southgate said of Sancho (via 90min).

“You can see the names there: Phil Foden, Raheem Sterling, Bukayo Saka, Emile Smith Rowe, Jack Grealish. If you look at the seasons they’ve had.

“Jadon, without a doubt over the last few weeks, his performances have improved for Manchester United. But it’s an area where we have real competition for places, those guys are slightly ahead.”

Explaining Rashford’s absence, the England boss added:

“He’s in the same position as everyone else.

“They’ve all got to play well over the next period at the end of this season and the beginning of the next season.

“It’s a difficult time for him. He’s clearly not at his best but there’s plenty of time. We know a lot about Marcus anyway. We know what he can bring to us, and hopefully he can rediscover that form that we know he’s capable of.”
