Former NFL star invests in a new Premier League club

A retired NFL defensive end and his wife have announced their formal involvement in Championship winners Burnley Football Club.

With two names familiar to American sports fans, both on the men’s and women’s fields worldwide, JJ Watt and Kealia Watt have made an exciting announcement. The couple has confirmed their investment in Burnley FC ahead of the club’s to the Premier League.

As a three-time NFL Defensive Player Of The Year winner for Houston Texans & Arizona Cardinals respectively, JJ Watt, along with his wife, embark on a new journey after spending time at Burnley and within the local community.

What did JJ Watt and Kealia Watt say?

“When you invest in a club that’s been around since 1882, you must have great respect for its history and tradition,” the couple said in a statement.

“We understand that not only are we investing in the squad and manager, we’re investing in the town and its people. We take that responsibility very seriously and intend to work hard in earning their trust and support.

“We believe that Burnley is a special club with incredible supporters and we want to help continue to elevate its global profile on its return to the Premier League.”

Burnley sealed a spot in the 2023/24 Premier League campaign by winning this season’s Championship title – one year after being relegated to the English second division.

Kealia, an American footballer, intends to help Burnley’s women’s team. The squad is in the third-tier FA Women’s National League North division.
