Just over a year after Diego Maradona’s own death, his younger brother passed away on Tuesday.

Hugo Maradona has died at the age of 52 after suffering a heart attack in Naples, Italy.

The younger brother of the late Diego Maradona was found dead at his home in the Naples district of Monte di Procida, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport.

The Italian outlet reported Hugo Maradona died in his home because of a cardiac arrest on Tuesday morning at 11:50 local time. His passing comes just over a year after Diego’s in November 2020.

The 52-year-old previously underwent surgery in 2018 for a heart condition. He appeared to be in good health, having announced plans to stand for elected office in Naples, until today’s news.

Hugo, like his brothers Diego and Raul, was a professional footballer and a coach in his career.

The former midfielder, nicknamed ‘El Turco’ (The Turk), played for Argentina at youth level and enjoyed spells across the globe in his homeland, Italy, Spain, Austria, Uruguay, Japan, and Canada before hanging up his boots in 1999.

He played for several clubs, including Rayo Vallecano in Spain and Italian side Ascoli.

After retiring, Hugo coached North American Soccer League side Puerto Rico Islanders. He also worked for youth and amateur teams in Naples upon returning to Italy before his passing.
