The 27-year-old new signing came with great ambitions to Stamford Bridge, and he hopes to deliver more for Chelsea.

Hakim Ziyech now becomes the first Chelsea player to score in the first two club starts across all the competitions. The previous best came from Diego Costa in 2014.

The Morocco international opened up the account for Chelsea in the 26th minute following Tammy Abraham’s set up. Consequently, Ziyech made no mistake to slot it in the near post to make it 1-0 against Burnley.

And his first goal came in the Champions League clash with Krasnodar on Wednesday. Ziyech scored a beautiful goal for the Blues in the 79th minute to contribute to a 4-0 easy win.

Aiming high.

Now with these two goals, the striker equaled Costa’s achievement. The Spanish international joined Chelsea from Atletico Madrid in 2014 scoring two goals in consecutive matches. It will be a difficult task ahead for Ziyech if he wants to match Costa’s debut season win with the Blues. Chelsea evidently won the Premier League title in the season 2014-15.

However, Ziyech was unfortunate to make a slow start to the season following his £37 million transfer from Ajax to Stamford Bridge. The Moroccon suffered from a knee injury in the only pre-season fixture for Chelsea against Brighton & Hove Albion.

We saw Ziyech play his first game for Frank Lampard’s side on October 17 as he came off the bench against Southampton. And he continued making substitute appearances in the matches vs Manchester United and Sevilla.

Also, the gaffer praised the newbie ahead of Chelsea’s clash against Burnley.

“I really like him as a personality,” Lampard told reporters via a Zoom video link from Cobham Training Centre. “I had conversations with him very early when we signed him and was struck by his confidence. There is inner confidence which I love. We needed that.

“We need players with confidence and personality who believe they should be here and want to offer something. He has been an absolute dream to work with.

“Sometimes you see the best of players when they are injured because he was so excited to come here and hit the ground running and got his injury in pre-season and his work ethic in the gym, interaction with the physios, desire to get fit and to form relationships in the group, he has made himself at home and felt at home in a short space of time.”
