The Blues defender is approaching the final 12 months of his current deal and is expecting to open renewal discussions with the club.

Andreas Christensen insists he is in Chelsea “for the long run” but reveals he is yet to be offered a contract extension by the club.

Christensen had never exactly been an indispensable presence in the Chelsea line-up but has been a regular since the appointment of Thomas Tuchel in January.

The Denmark international has featured in 13 of his side’s 15 matches in the Premier League with Tuchel at the helm. He has also made three appearances in the FA Cup as well as five in the Champions League so far this season.

The 25-year-old, who has been on the London side’s books since 2013, is tied to the club through to the summer of 2022 and he is hoping that his strong recent performances would get him a new deal.

“I’ve shown that I’m here for the long run. I’ve been here almost nine, 10 years now. I’ve never doubted my decision [to come to Chelsea] and I’ve always been here for the long run.

“I accept that the club sometimes changes managers, and that can make it hard to always be in the team,” Christensen told the official website.

“After the loan spell [at Borussia Monchengladbach] I came back and played a good amount and since then it’s been a bit in and out, but it’s nice at the moment to play back-to-back games and my confidence is growing with each game.

“There have not been any talks [on a contract extension] yet, but like I said, I’m in this for the long run and I always have been. I feel like this is my second home. Denmark will always be my home, but Chelsea will always be my place.”
