Two of the Red Devils’ strikers may remain unavailable for selection for the upcoming European outing due to fitness issues.

Edinson Cavani and Anthony Martial both started in Manchester United’s 3-1 win over West Ham United but neither could last for the full 90 minutes.

The experienced Uruguayan was withdrawn at half-time while the Frenchman made way for Juan Mata two minutes after the hour mark in Saturday’s Premier League fixture.

Martial was moving gingerly after what looked like he had suffered an injury to his thigh.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer confirmed that the pair picked up muscular injuries and that their condition will be assessed ahead of the Champions League group stage meeting with RB Leipzig.

“Injuries… so it’s unfortunate that sometimes you get muscle injuries and Edi had to come off with an injury, hopefully, it’s not too bad,” Solskjaer told Sky Sports, via the club’s official website.

“We lost [Martial] and Edinson. We’ll do scans on them and hopefully, they’ll be available soon.”

“There’s a game already on Tuesday. It’ll probably be [like this] this year. Some games we have to do without players and I’m glad we’ve got the substitutions we have.”

Cavani, who was the hero in the 3-2 win against Southampton last weekend as he struck twice after coming on to help United pull a comeback, has been in fine form ever since joining the team on a free transfer.

The former Paris Saint-Germain striker’s presence against RB Leipzig would be of great help with Man United needing to avoid defeat in order to go through to Champions League Last 16.
