Ahead of next month’s AFCON tournament, Zambo Anguissa returned from injury to feature for Napoli.

Cameroon midfielder Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa made his return from injury in Napoli’s surprise 1-0 defeat to Empoli.

The 26-year-old, on loan from English Championship side Fulham, made a 27-minute cameo at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium by replacing Diego Demme as a second-half substitute.

It was his first appearance since suffering an abductor injury in the 3-2 defeat at Inter Milan on November 21, handing Cameroon a major boost ahead of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in January.

Unfortunately for Napoli, though, Zambo Anguissa’s return wasn’t enough to spare them of defeat. The Partenopei lost 1-0 at home to Empoli, after Patrick Cutrone’s 70th-minute winning goal for the visitors.

The loss sent Luciano Spalletti’s men crashing down to fourth-place in the Serie A table, four points behind new leaders Inter Milan.

But on the bright side, the club confirmed Piotr Zielinski tested negative for COVID-19. The Pole lasted only 16 minutes in Sunday’s game, having struggled with breathing problems.
