The Selecao will play with a different colour than their iconic yellow and blue jerseys.

Brazil will play with green jerseys for the first time in their football history.

Blue and yellow have remained as Brazil’s main jersey colours, marking their identity as one of the greatest football nations. However, we’ll soon see the Selecao play with a different colour.

In July, Brazil will wear their new away strip in a friendly match at Arena Amazonia.

According to Brazilian reporter Andre Rizek, sales from the fixture will go to the SOS Amazonia campaign. The NGO is one of many organizations that are pushing for preserving the Amazon rainforest.

Changing the shirt colour comes amid political turmoil in Brazil. The country’s far-right movement, led by former president Jair Bolsonaro, has used the yellow jersey as a political symbol in recent years.

Prior to the World Cup 1950, Brazil used to play in white. However, they switched to yellow after their defeat against Uruguay in the final.

In 2014 and 2017, Brazil’s football federation tried to use the green colour in the senior squad’s jerseys. However, those shirts were only used in training and didn’t end up in any games.

For years, there have been rumours about Nike designing a green kit for the Selecao. But this time, it seems the Selecao fans will finally get the new jersey.
