The Real Madrid superstar scored two late goals on Monday to surpass his compatriot in the record books.

Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema has surpassed Thierry Henry as the highest French scorer in football history.

The 34-year-old bagged a late brace to add to Vinicius Junior’s second-half goal and hand Real Madrid a 3-0 win over Mallorca on Monday, moving Los Blancos 10 points clear at the top of the La Liga table.

In doing so, he surpassed Henry’s long-lasting record of 411 goals by taking his career goal tally to 413.

The striker has now scored 311 goals for Real Madrid across 593 appearances in all competitions. That makes up 75% of his overall career tally.

Benzema also bagged 66 goals for Lyon before joining Real Madrid in the summer of 2009.

On the international scene, he has found the back of the net 36 times for the French national team in 94 matches.

Real Madrid will hope Benzema will stay fit and be at his best on Sunday when they take on arch-rivals Barcelona in La Liga for another Clasico.
