The Polish striker accused Bayern of lying to justify his sale to Barcelona.

Bayern Munich director Hasan Salihamidzic has hit back at Robert Lewandowski for his recent comments about the club.

Lewandowski left Bayern after eight years to join Barcelona on a €50m earlier this summer. The move came after the 33-year-old repeatedly expressed his desire to leave the German side ahead of the next season.

What did Lewandowski say?

Speaking to ESPN earlier this week, Lewandowski accused Bayern of lying to justify his sale to their fans.

“What happened in the final weeks before I left Bayern was also politics,” Lewandowski said.

“The club wanted to look for a fight in order to justify my sale because maybe it was difficult to explain to the fans.”

He added: “I have to accept that even if there were a lot of lies, a lot of lies about me. They were false things, but in the end I know that the fans, even at this time, continue to support me a lot.”

Salihamidzic responds

Lewandowski’s comments have triggered a response from Salihamidzic, who spoke to reporters after Bayern’s win over RB Leipzig in the German Super Cup.

He said: “It is something that Bayern does not accept.”

“I don’t understand Lewandowski. My father always taught me that when you leave, never close the door with your behind.

“Robert is headed in the direction of doing exactly that.”
