Five Barcelona players returned to Camp Nou with injuries after spending the break with their respective national teams.

FIFA must avoid further changes to World Cup’s timing, according to Barcelona boss Xavi Hernandez.

The Catalans are preparing for their return to action after suffering a host of injury blows during the international break.

Jules Kounde, Ronald Araujo, Frenkie de Jong, and Memphis Depay have all come back to Camp Nou with fitness problems. Hector Bellerin also suffered an injury during Barca’s training earlier this week.

“FIFA plans to organise the World Cup every two years,” Xavi said ahead of Barca’s upcoming clash against Mallorca.

“Now we have the World Cup in Qatar during the winter period.

“I think it would be better if the tournament is compiled at a separate time. Then the other time is allocated to the clubs.”

He added: “We have 12 games until the break for the World Cup.

“It’s a momentous stretch of the season. All games are going to be very important.

“Tomorrow we have to win and show our character. We have to show our strengths.”

Following the Mallorca match, Barca will travel to San Siro to face Inter in a crunch Champions League game on Tuesday.
