Barcelona legend Rivaldo has shared his thoughts on what the club must do if they have ambitions of challenging for the Champions League.

Barcelona must try to sign one or two strikers in the January window if they plan to remain competitive this season.

The Catalan giants saw one of their key names over the years in Luis Suarez leave for Atletico this summer.

Ansu Fati looked to have stepped up in the Uruguayan’s absence but the youngster has sadly been ruled out long-term due to injury. He will miss at least four months of action.

That leaves Barca short of numbers on the attacking front with a number of competitions to compete in. On a good day, Messi and Griezmann can sort that out but both players are yet to hit full gear this term.

Rivaldo believes there is a need for the club to bring in one or two attackers particularly if they want to challenge on the continental front.

The Blaugrana legend told Betfair: “I thought Barcelona should sign someone before Ansu Fati’s injury, so now I think it even more.”

“The club should try to sign one or two strikers if they want to fight for the Champions League.”

The Brazilian added: “Koeman should have more options in attack to manage a line-up which is sufficiently decisive and competitive in big games, in important ties.”

“Ansu was playing well, he was gaining confidence and becoming more influential in the team, his absence is another headache for the coach.”

One attacker Barca continue to be linked with is Lyon star Memphis Depay. Both the player and the club have publicly expressed their interest but it remains to be seen if a deal can materialize in January.
