Barcelona have announced that Marc-Andre ter Stegen will remain on the sidelines for a duration of around 2.5 months.

On Monday, FC Barcelona confirmed that Marc-Andre ter Stegen will undergo surgery for a persistent knee issue.

The German international has had troubles on his right patellar tendon since earlier in 2019/20 but played through his discomfort so as to see to the end of the extended season.

On Tuesday, after the conclusion of their season following the Champions League semi-final defeat to Bayern Munich, a preventative surgery was performed on him with the aim of avoiding the tendon problem from getting worse.

Unfortunately, the shot-stopper will be unavailable for selection for a while in the new La Liga season, which is scheduled to commence on the 12th of next month.

A medical report detailing the extent of the goalkeeper’s injury released on the official club website read: “The Intervention was realized successfully and the expected time of recovery will be approximately 2,5 months.”

Ter Stegen was one of Barcelona’s most pivotal players last season, making 46 appearances across all competitions while registering 17 clean sheets.
