The Catalans hope to bolster their backline in the upcoming transfer window.

Barcelona are reportedly keen to sign Borna Sosa from Stuttgart ahead of the next season.

Transfer reports about Barca have been focusing on their pursuit of a new striker in recent weeks. However, Xavi Hernandez’s side are reportedly eyeing re-enforcements in other areas of the pitch as well.

According to German outlet Bild, Barca have been keeping tabs on Stuttgart left-back Sosa.

The 24-year-old has played for the German side since 2018, following a move from Dinamo Zagreb. This season, he has made 26 appearances for the Reds, registering seven assists.

The Croatian’s attacking skills have caught the attention of Barca, who are looking to find a backup for Jordi Alba. Sosa is reportedly ‘excited’ by the prospect of joining Barcelona while being open to leaving Stuttgart ahead of his contract expiry in 2025.

On the other hand, Barcelona can finally have a reliable second option on the left-hand side of their backline. Alba has been the only senior option for the position, making 27 league appearances this season.

According to reports from German media, Barcelona will need to pay a fee of €25 million for Sosa’s transfer. Stuttgart currently sit 16th in Bundesliga, four points away from escaping the relegation zone.

In case the Reds relegate to Bundesliga 2 this season, Barca might be able to acquire Sosa’s services with a lower transfer fee.
