Barcelona’s visit to Bayern Munich and Manchester City’s game against RB Leipzig will be played without the spectators.

Barcelona and Manchester City both teams will play their respective Champions League games against Bayern Munich and RB Leipzig behind closed doors next week.

As the cases of Covid-19 rise in the German state of Bavaria, the La Liga club made an official announcement regarding the situation.

The Catalan club stated: “Bayern Munich v FC Barcelona will be played behind closed doors. The game corresponding to matchday six in the Champions League will be played without fans in the stadium. Due to the serious increase in coronavirus cases in the German region of Bavaria in the last few weeks.”

Barcelona will go up against all the odds next week in order to avoid playing in the Europa League for the next season. Xavi Hernandez’s side need the win at any cost against the German champions if they wish to qualify to the knockout stage.

Elsewhere, Manchester City will have a trip to RB Leipzig in their final game of the group stage on December 7. Due to a similar pandemic threat, the German state of Saxony has been on a partial lockdown since last month.

In fact, on Thursday, the German government reinstated protocols for sporting events because of a spike in the covid-19 cases. Bundesliga matches can now only accommodate up to 50 per cent and up to a maximum of 15,000 spectators in the stadiums.
