According to Benfica youth coach Joao Tralhao, Atletico Madrid young striker could become a potential Ballon d’Or winner.

Significant prospects have emerged recently for the footballing world’s greatest individual prize, which is the Ballon d’Or award. And this young starlet whose roots go back to Portugal could also be a worthy candidate. Benfica youth coach Joao Tralhao praised the Atletico Madrid striker Joao Felix and believes that he is a potential award-winner.

Before joining the Spanish side, Felix trained with Tralhao at Benfica. And now, the Portugal international has evolved to bring out his best game this new season. Felix turned 21 this week and is beginning to serve as a prominent attacker for Los Rojiblancos. He has seven goals already along with three assists to his name in 10 games for Diego Simeone’s side. Moreover, Felix is now leveled on the second rank for goalscorers in La Liga alongside Paco Alcacer and Luis Suarez.

A future award winner?

Tralhao saw the youngster grow at Benfica and aided his progress. Also, he is happy that Felix is doing well at Atletico.

“Joao is an elite player,” he told RMC Sport as carried by Mundo Deportivo. “There are very few players like Joao in the world – he stands apart.

“In France, there is [Kylian] Mbappe, a player everyone knows is going to reach the top of world football. Mbappe will be a candidate for the Ballon d’Or.

“Here in Portugal we say that Joao Felix will also be in the fight – what’s more, I’m sure that one day Joao will win the Ballon d’Or. I have no doubts about it.”

Felix now inches closer to breaking his tally of nine goals and three assists from the 2019-20 season, which was his debut season.
