The Spaniard took the opportunity to make his mark on the game with both hands when afforded his first start of the season on Wednesday.

Marco Asensio has sent a message to Carlo Ancelotti after his spectacular performance for Real Madrid in the La Liga meeting with Mallorca.

Asensio was the star of the show at the Santiago Bernabeu last night as he hit a hat-trick in his side’s 6-1 victory.

The 25-year-old has struggled for consistent minutes on the pitch this season, having been restricted to just 68 minutes of action across all competition prior to Wednesday, but he can now hope for things to get better.

“Ancelotti can count on me, I’m ready,” Asensio told after the full-time whistle (via Managing Madrid).

“There’s a lot of competition for minutes. The position I played in tonight is a good one for me and I will play wherever coach wants me to do so.

“I’m delighted. I had the opportunity to play from the start and I knew I had to take my chance. I’ve worked really hard for this moment to come. I’m pleased with the win, the goals and that we‘ve been able to keep the run going.

“It was a special game for me. Mallorca is a club that’s close to my heart, as I started out there. They’ve had a good start to the season and I hope they do well in the rest of it.”
