Arsenal are keen on bolstering their squad and could bring in a few new faces before the transfer window slams shut, says Mikel Arteta.

Arsenal have made good use of the summer transfer window so far, signing the likes of goalkeeper Runar Alex Runarsson, defender Gabriel Magalhaes, and forward Willian.

Strengthening midfield is now supposedly the priority for the Gunners with Olympique Lyon’s Houssem Aouar and Atletico Madrid’s Thomas Partey reportedly on the top of their wishlist.

However, after weeks of being unable to make any advancements in their pursuit of either of the two players, the London-based side have turned their attention to Chelsea’s Jorginho, as per Sky Sports.

Jorginho had been in and out of Frank Lampard’s team last season and was strongly linked with a return to Juventus prior to Maurizio Sarri’s dismissal.

Arteta was asked to comment on the transfer rumors during a news conference and he chose to reply in an indirect manner.

“We are still open to improve our team,” the official club website quotes Arteta. “We are looking for different options depending on what happens with some of our players here so we are getting prepared just in case we need to do something.

When quizzed about the qualities he admires in Jorginho, he replied: “Sorry, but I cannot talk about players that play for a different team. [Discussing] their qualities is not appropriate from my side.”
