The former Chelsea winger signed up on the dotted line for Arsenal in the summer, despite rumored interest from FC Barcelona.

Barcelona made no official approach for Willian over the summer or at any point in the past prior to him joining Arsenal.

The Brazil international ended a superb seven-year spell with Chelsea after failing to agree on terms for a new contract in August. He later signed a contract until 2023 with London rivals Arsenal that same month.

But doubts over Willian’s future had existed for quite some time before then, and reports of interest from Barcelona were never far away.

“There are always rumors, but I didn’t know about any other official offer,” the 32-year-old told FourFourTwo.

“Indeed, there was a lot of talk about Barcelona for the past few seasons, but I wouldn’t have gone there just because they’re Barca.

“I wouldn’t go to any club without hearing about their targets and what they wanted from me.

“It wouldn’t be nice to be there or anywhere else if you weren’t going to be a big part of the project and didn’t play much.

“Arsenal were the only club to show me a project that would fit with my ambitions, and they’re one of the biggest clubs in the world.”
