The Spaniard benefited from the managerial change at Stamford Bridge, being able to get in the starting XI for the first time in 19 weeks.

Marcos Alonso insists “there will be more to come” from him after starring in Chelsea’s 2-0 win over Burnley.

Alonso scored a spectacular goal from a tight angle to ensure Chelsea get back to winning ways in the Premier League and help new manager Thomas Tuchel seal his first win for the club.

The 30-year-old had become a somewhat forgotten man at Stamford Bridge, having been frozen out of the team under Frank Lampard.

Before Sunday’s game, he had not made a single appearance for the Blues since September as Ben Chilwell was Lampard’s preferred option at left-back.

The Spaniard was even linked with a move away in January but he now relishes returning to form and favor at Chelsea.

Alonso told the club’s official website: “We knew it would be dangerous against this team with the long balls and set-pieces so I was there to help.

“It’s been a while since I played but I’ve been working hard and I’m just happy that I was ready.

“A lot of things have been said out there but I like to work, be quiet and talk on the pitch so that was for the fans. It’s good to get the reward and hopefully, there will be more to come.”
