The Premier League’s all-time record goalscorer has changed his Haaland prediction.

Alan Shearer has confessed he underestimated Erling Haaland, having changed his previous goalscoring prediction for the striker from 40 goals to 60 goals.

Haaland has taken the Premier League by storm this season. He already has 30 goals in 27 league games, while his total in all competitions is 44.

“I wonder how many people thought it was hyperbole when I wrote in The Athletic nearly a year ago that Erling Haaland would score 40 goals in this Manchester City team,” Shearer, who scored a record 260 Premier League goals in his own career, wrote in his Athletic column.

“At a minimum, City have another 12 fixtures this season and potentially up to four more on top. If he can stay fit, Haaland will obliterate the Premier League record I share with Andy Cole of 34 goals in a single season, and at his current rate of averages in all competitions, with 44 in 38 appearances, he will storm past 50.”

Reflecting on a record from 1927/28, Shearer added: “Even that may be a disservice to him (scoring 50).

“Who knows, we could even be talking 60 and Dixie Dean territory. Scary.”

Haaland will likely start on Tuesday when Manchester City play Bayern Munich in the Champions League. For betting tips and stats, visit the Ace Football match preview here.
