The Liverpool star was an integral part of his side’s victory as they reached the AFCON semi-finals.

Egypt defeated Morocco 2-1 in their Africa Cup of Nations quarter-final tie on Sunday. After an early opener from Morocco, Mohamed Salah levelled the result with a second-half equalizer.

The Liverpool star then provided a brilliant assist for Trezeguet in the extra time to send Egypt into the semi-finals. The Pharaohs have qualified for the pre-final stage 16 times, more than any other nation in the history of the competition.

“We fought with all our might today,” Salah said post-match (via King Fut).

“We had to focus and clear our minds, and in the end we won the match and reached the semi-finals.

“We have great experiences. We have talked together more than once about our desire to make Egyptian fans happy.

“We played 240 minutes or more in two matches in six days, so it was important to focus mentally.

“We won the match because we were brave. This is is what I told the players of the Egyptian national team because they gave 100% of their efforts.”

Egypt will now prepare to face Cameroon in a semi-final battle on Thursday.
