Paris Saint-Germain have confirmed the departure of Thiago Silva with a message of thanks for his eight-year-long services.

A nearly month-long transfer saga came to an end in July 2012 when Paris Saint-Germain confirmed the signing of Thiago Silva from AC Milan for a fee of around €46 million.

Silva had to wait a while before making his debut as he had arrived from Milan carrying a thigh injury.

On September 19, about two months after his arrival, he played and scored for the first time for PSG in the 4-1 win over Dynamo Kyiv in a Champions League group stage match.

He never looked back thereafter as he became a mainstay in the PSG backline.

The Brazilian center-back enjoyed immense success during his time in the French capital, winning 7 Ligue 1 titles among a plethora of other domestic trophies.

Silva played his last game for the Ligue 1 giants in the Champions League final defeat to Bayern Munich, a game that marked his 315th appearance for the club.

On Wednesday, he confirmed his departure as he drafted an emotional farewell message to the fans on social media.

And now the club have paid tribute to him with president Nasser Al-Khelaifi also honoring the defender’s prolonged commitment.

“Thiago, thank you for these eight memorable years, full of lasting memories and for your involvement, your devotion, and your spirit. You will forever be one of the greatest players in history, and your legendary status here at PSG will last forever.

“I wish you and your family the best for your future challenges. You will always be part of the family and the history of the club, a big thank you captain!”
