Manchester United were not able to defeat Newcastle as they displayed an underwhelming performance at Saint James’ Park.

Newcastle held Manchester United to a 1-1 draw in their Premier League game on Monday. The Red Devils proved they are far off their best form, while the Magpies delivered a convincing performance.

Newcastle came into the match on the back of a run of three consecutive defeats. The Magpies are struggling to get out of the relegation zone, but they surprised United right from the beginning.

The hosts got an opener as soon as they sensed Man United are struggling to find themselves on the pitch. Following a mistake from Raphael Varane, Sean Longstaff provided a precise assist for Allan Saint-Maximin. The French striker surged into the box before smashing the ball into the top-right corner.

Despite conceding the opener, United remained toothless when it came to creating goalscoring chances. The hosts maintained their possession while United were struggling to make proper recoveries.

The Red Devils’ poor form continued in the second half. However, they managed to score an equalizer through a deflected shot from Edinson Cavani in the 71st minute. Following the goal, the pace of the game dropped significantly as United were not able to build momentum.

Surprisingly, it was Newcastle who pushed for a match-winner in the final ten minutes. The Magpies could have clinched the victory if it was not for David De Dea’s heroics. The United keeper pulled off several impressive saves to keep the hosts at bay.

The disappointing draw sees United remain in seventh place. The Red Devils will now prepare to face Burnley in their next game on Thursday.

On the other hand, Eddie Howe can be happy with his side’s impressive performance today. The Magpies remain in 19th place ahead of their match against Everton.
