Chelsea won the first leg of the semi-final tie as they beat Tottenham on home soil.

Chelsea defeated Tottenham 2-0 in their Carabao Cup game on Wednesday. The Blues took a big step toward reaching the final as they marched past Antonio Conte’s men.

Conte returns to Stamford Bridge!

Antonio Conte faced Chelsea for the first time since his sacking in 2018. The Tottenham manager has improved the Spurs since arriving at the club. However, Chelsea outplayed his side from right from the start.

Following a blunder from Japhet Tanganga, Marcos Alonso found Kai Havertz in the left-inside channel. The German midfielder opened the scoring with a precise low shot in the fifth minute.

Spurs tried to come back into the game, but another defensive mistake doubled the hosts’ lead. Ziyech delivered a dangerous free-kick from the right flank before Tanganga made a jump to clear it. However, Tanganga’s header hit Ben Davies and went straight into the back of the net.

Conte made a few changes in the second half, hoping to turn the game around. However, Chelsea managed to hold the 2-0 win as Spurs lacked enough intensity in their attacks.

Before meeting each other again in the tie’s second leg, the two teams will have to play in the FA Cup. Chelsea will face Chesterfield while Tottenham will lock horns with Morecambe.
